Tuesday Tech Tip - Using the Chrome Omnibox to Search

Working with students and teachers I have noticed that quite a few folks go to google.com or other search page in order to search.  My hope is that this tip will save you a few clicks:)

Google Chrome has a feature called an Omnibox.  It is the white rectangular box in the image below.

Traditionally you would only type in specific web addresses in this box, such as  http://www.pinedaleschools.org/ .  However, with the Chrome Omnibox you can type your search terms directly into this box (schools in Pinedale for example).  After you type your search words in, just click Enter and your search results will pop up.

Bonus tip - you can also use the omnibox as a dictionary.  Just type definition: followed by any word and Chrome will return a dictionary entry for the word you entered.

Happy Searching!
